Murray Bros Ltd is a Taranaki based, family owned rural transport company established in 1991. In April 2017, Murray Bros Ltd expanded when we purchased Maurice Vickers Livestock from Merv & Judy Pryce who are now semi-retired.
Murray Bros Ltd is owned by brothers Alan and Brian Murray. As well as being an owner, Alan enjoys the hands-on side, and is passionate about driving, and getting out to see our customers. In December 2018, The New Zealand Road Transport Forum awarded Alan for 35 years of service and an outstanding contribution to the Truck Driving profession.
Alan’s daughter Nicole is the companies' Transport Manager. Prior to joining the family business after its expansion in early 2017, Nicole worked as an Agri Manager for Ravensdown in Wanganui for 5 years, after graduating from Massey University with a Bachelor of Agricultural and Animal Science.
Brian’s son Hamish is a full-time driver for Murray Bros Ltd. Hamish has a background in the Engineering Industry, and has previous driving experience. Hamish’s engineering background is useful when it comes to truck repair and maintenance. Hamish moved back home after living in Rotorua for several years to join the family business after its expansion.
Daniel Lozell is our other full-time driver. Eltham born and bred, Daniel has previous livestock haulage and trucking experience, and most recently came to us from Eltham Timber Supplies.
We also have several reliable casual staff who drive for us during the seasonal busy patches. During the busy bobby calf season, we employee 5 casual staff as Driver’s Assistants, to help with the collections.
Our depot is located at 253 Lower Duthie Rd, Kaponga 4391. The Farm Source Kaponga Sale Yards are also located at our depot.
Pop in for a visit, or give us a call, we would love to hear from you!

Late April/early May was a very busy time for us as we were transporting R1 heifers out to grazing, and R2 heifers home to join the herd. We had 7 trucks on the road most days during this period to get through all of these shifts, as well as the ongoing works cattle to pick up. Early June was also busy with whole herd shifts for sharemilkers moving to new properties.
We were proud to say that most days all of our drivers were back home at the depot by 4-5pm, so all of our shifts were completed in daylight with plenty of time to spare.

Murray Bros Ltd became an incorporated company in July 1991 – so this month, we celebrate our 27th year in business!
We have also just celebrated 1 year since we incorporated Maurice Vickers Livestock into our business. What a great first year we have had! Thank you to all our existing clients who have continued to support us, and for all of our clients who have come over from Maurice Vickers, thank you very much.

This week saw our last bobby calf collection for 2017! Peak bobby calf numbers for our whole run were around 13th August! We've had a very successful first season, thank you to all our drivers, and pick-up assistants who have all helped things run smoothly!

We have now passed the peak of our Bobby Calf pick-up season. What a busy time it has been! At the peak of the season, we have had 5 trucks out on the road every second day collecting bobby calves. Our busiest days saw us collecting about 1,000 calves per day to take into ANZCO, Eltham. On pick-up days, we have 3 trucks starting out of Merv & Judy’s Stratford depot for our Pukengahu, Cadriff & Te Roti runs. And 2 trucks start out of our Matapu depot for the Matapu & Kaponga runs.
